Welcome to the
McCarter Elementary Library

Tumblebooks and Bookflix
The McCarter PTO has generously paid for school subscriptions to online reading programs Tumblebooks and Bookflix. Both programs are designed to enhance and broaden reading skills in a fun and informative way. These websites are available to the McCarter community anywhere there is Internet access. They are password-driven, so please email me if your student is unsure of how to log in (eschram@topeka.k12.ks.us).
Tumblebooks
The Tumblebooks website includes a large collection of animated, talking picture books that help kids learn to read while enriching the reading skills of kids who are reading independently. According to the Tumblebooks website, the high-interest material "provides support to students who require skill-building with a variety of exercises that can be matched with other areas of the curriculum."
Tumblebooks includes material for all ages, from early readers to chapter books to graphic novels. There is a growing selection of books in both Spanish and French, and the company recently partnered with National Geographic to bring subscribers videos covering subjects such as history, geography, social studies, and science.

Bookflix
From the Bookflix website: "Scholastic BookFlix is a new online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. The engaging way to link fact and fiction, BookFlix reinforces early reading skills and introduces children to a world of knowledge and exploration."
Bookflix has been heavily used by our K-2 classrooms in the past, and most students in grades K-3 will be very familiar with the website and how to use it. While Bookflix is available for all McCarter students, the material is targeted primarily at students in grades K-2.
