Mrs. Francis

Library Paraprofessional

Mrs. Francis grew up in Kensington, MD where her love for reading was nurtured by trips she took with her mother to Noyes Library (the oldest public library in the DC area, now devoted solely to children). Mrs. Francis graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of Maryland. She began her career in bank administration and later worked as a Lab Manager at the National Institute of Health.
Mrs. Francis moved with her husband to Topeka in 1999. She and her husband have two sons, Punleu (who recently graduated from McCarter) and Chuan (a 4th grader at McCarter).

Mrs. Francis began volunteering at the McCarter library when her youngest son entered kindergarten. She found that she loved working with the students and enjoyed children's literature. After two years, Mrs. Francis was hired as a half-time Media Para at McCarter. She and her family enjoy traveling, sports (especially baseball), and reading together. Mrs. Francis loves book recommedations from McCarter students, so encourage your students to tell her about their latest reads!

Ms. Schramm grew up in Topeka, KS and has lived all over the Midwest. She went to college at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, and then spent six years living in Chicago, IL and working as an editor in the educational publishing industry. Eventually, knowing she loved both children and books, she decided to go back to school to pursue her dream job of being a school librarian. After finishing graduate school at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012, she found her place at McCarter Elementary.

Ms. Schramm enjoys reading (books, magazines, blogs...you name it), all animals (especially her large terrier mutt, Clara), independent films and documentaries, alternative rock and folk music, sushi, pickles, farmer's markets, and the radio show This American Life. She also loves working with the awesome kids at McCarter Elementary.
