Library Policies

 Books and Equipment:

  • There is no limit on the number of books teachers may check out.

  • There is no limit on the number of holds teachers may place on books.

  • Teachers may check out books for an unlimited amount of time, unless there is a hold on the book by a student or another teacher. In that case, the teacher with the book will be notified that there is a hold and that someone else is waiting for the book.

  • If teachers have any books that have been checked out and not returned by the end of the school year, an overdue notice with the cost of the book will be given to them so that they can remember to look for/pay for the missing book.

iPads:

STUDENT IPADS (iPads in the large cart):

  • In order to check out student iPads, teachers must sign up on the iPad sign up sheet on the counter at the front of the library. Sign ups are available on a first come, first served basis. Teachers should find the date and time slot they want and write their name and the number of iPads they will need in parentheses after their name. It should look like this: Cross (6). If teachers want the whole cart they should write (all).

  • If a teacher wants the same number of iPads at the same time each week, they can tell me and I will fill in the iPad sign up sheet for them. Otherwise, they will be responsible for doing this themselves.

  • If a time slot on the iPad sign up sheet is open, or not all of the iPads are taken for that time slot, those iPads are considered available for whoever wants to use them/sign up for them. Likewise, if a teacher has signed up in a time slot for a specific number of iPads, those iPads are considered reserved and may not be taken by another teacher.

  • If two or more teachers want to reserve iPads during the same time slot and there are not enough iPads, they will need to coordinate with each other. I create the iPad sign up sheet but I am not in charge of scheduling.

TEACHER IPADS (iPads in the tray on the counter):

  • Teachers DO NOT need to sign up on the iPad sign up sheet to check out teacher iPads. Likewise, teacher iPads cannot be reserved unless all student iPads are unavailable for a specific time slot.

  • Teacher iPads are a good alternative if a teacher needs an iPad at the last minute or if the camera option is needed (there are no cameras on the majority of the student iPads).

  • Teacher iPads can be used with students, but teachers should try to use the student iPads first. If no student iPads are available, teacher iPads may be used.

  • Teachers iPads need to be returned as soon as possible or at the end of the day.

All books, equipment, and iPads MUST BE CHECKED OUT from the library. This prevents major headaches in looking for lost materials that show up in the catalog as being available in the library. If Ms. Schramm or Mrs. Francis are not available, teachers may either check themselves out through Destiny (if you don't know how, let me know and I'd be happy to show you!), or write down their name and the barcode number of the book, iPad, or equipment on the check out sheet on Ms. Schramm's desk.

Teachers may take an iPad home with them overnight or over a weekend in order to work on a lesson or get more familiar with an app. District policy requires that the teacher fill out a specific form in order to do this. Forms are located in the office.
